2025 NFL DRAFT BIG BOARD: EDGE RUSHERS
There is a strong argument to be made that the edge rusher position is the most vital element of any efficient defense. Excellent pass-rush leads to better pass coverage and combined, tends to help create turnovers.
We witnessed the Philadelphia Eagles defeat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX without having to even blitz due to the tremendous pass-rush capabilities of the Eagles defensive front. That is the goal and aspiration of the other 31 NFL teams.
Each of the last four NFL Drafts have produced premier pass-rush prospects such as Jared Verse (Rams), Aidan Hutchinson (Lions), Will Anderson (Texans) and Micah Parsons (Cowboys). Abdul Carter of Penn State would appear to be the next man up.
With an ideal blend of speed, power and bend, Carter is able to attack the opposing quarterbacks in an array of ways. Look no further than the 24 tackles for loss (12 sacks) this past season. His performance and production has earned him top five overall draft status and potentially the right to be the No.1 overall pick in the draft.
One player who has skyrocketed up draft boards would be Mykel Williams of Georgia. While the stats won’t jump off the page at you, he possesses a prototype frame, along with elite athleticism and a relentless motor. Look for Williams to be one of the big winners at the combine and depart Indy with a buzz as a possible top five overall selection.
Some mid-to-late round prospects worth monitoring include Josaiah Stewart of Michigan and David Walker of Central Arkansas. Both players come up short in the measureables department but have produced at high levels and own explosive get-offs, plus plenty of favorable traits. Classify these players under the risk/reward category.
This is a deep class and includes a few raw, developmental types as well. Those would include Oluwafemi Oladejo of UCLA, who is a rapid-developing edge rusher after switching over from off-ball linebacker, along with Diwun Black of Temple who brings SEC pedigree as a transfer from Florida, plus inane bend and Steve Linton of Baylor who caught our eye at the Hula Bowl with his quick twitch explosiveness.
