The ‘Coach Prime Effect’ is evident in Boulder. Prior to the arrival of Deion Sanders as head coach of Colorado, the Buffaloes had won a combined total of nine games during the previous three seasons combined. In 2024, Colorado managed to go 9-4, led by Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter (Rd1-Jaguars) and quarterback Shedeur Sanders (Rd5-Browns). The Buffaloes also saw wideouts LaJohntay Wester (Rd6-Ravens) and Joe Horn (Rd6-Panthers) chosen on Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft. It was the first year that Colorado had any players drafted, as they were shut out of the NFL Draft entirely between 2022-23. There are a total of 15 Colorado alumni on NFL Week 1 rosters, including cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie (Rd2-Cowboys-2017) and Ahkello Witherspoon (Rd3-49ers-2017).
