DRAFT WATCH: SHERATON HAWAII BOWL PROSPECT PRIMER
The Sheraton Hawaii Bowl matchup features familiar foes. Hawaii head coach Timmy Chang and California interim head coach Nick Rolovich were once teammates for the Rainbow Warriors (2000-01). They will now reunite a quarter century later on the ‘Big Island,’ for what is considered the most weather-friendly bowl game of the season.
For Hawaii, star wideout Jackson Harris, who exploded for 963 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns in 2025, has announced he will enter the transfer portal and will not be participating. That means redshirt freshman quarterback Micah Alejado will look for Pofele Ashlock to provide big plays on offense. On defense, underrated defensive tackle De’John Benton has shown an innate ability to create pressure from the interior, while kicker Kansei Matsuzawa is one of the best kickers in the nation, having earned the moniker, ‘The Tokyo Toe.’
On the California side, Rolovich has been mum in regards to which players have opted out. The Bears program is at a crossroads, as new head coach Tosh Lupoi attempts to temper the transfer portal exodus. Fab frosh quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele has committed to returning to Cal for 2026, a big coup, as there is a strong young nucleus in tow. However, there are several redshirt seniors that NFL scouts will be monitoring, including wideout Trond Grizzell and offensive tackle Jordan Spasojevic-Moko. Cornerback Hezekiah Masses has been invited to the Panini Senior Bowl.
