TRIO OF ‘BAMA STARS DECLARE FOR THE DRAFT
The Alabama Crimson Tide saw three players take to social media on Thursday to announce their intent to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. Enigmatic quarterback Jalen Milroe, offensive line mauler Tyler Booker and tenacious linebacker Jihaad Campbell.
For Milroe (pictured), expectations were high coming into the season, as many thought he would take the next step of his development as a passer under new head coach Kalen DeBoer. Instead, Milroe seemed to have regress and had a propensity for turnovers. A dynamic runner, Milroe ran for 726 yards and 20 scores via the ground. He managed just 16 passing touchdowns, with 11 interceptions, while passing for 2,844 yards. Overall, Milroe possesses a rare athletic skill-set that will make some NFL team want to develop him as a passer. However, it would seem hard to justify to pull the trigger in round one.
For Booker, who switched from offensive tackle to guard early in the season, he is one of the more nasty players you will come to find in the trenches. He thrives in the run game and has made strides in pass protection since sliding inside. The bust out Campbell nearly doubled his tackle total form the previous year, tallying 117 on the season, including 12 tackles for loss, five sacks and an interception. Both players are considered to be potential first round selections.
NOTRE DAME DEFENSE SHINES IN WIN OVER GEORGIA
Notre Dame dominated Georgia in the Sugar Bowl from start-to-finish on Thursday, largely in part due to their stymie defense, which limited the Bulldogs to just 10 points. Linebacker Jack Kiser led the charge with six tackles and one sack, while causing a critical forced fumble early in the game. Kiser owns a similar size and frame to Jack Campbell (Lions) and would seem to factor into the top 50 overall.
Meanwhile safety Xavier Watts held down the back end of the secondary to clean up any mess that got by the first two levels of the defense. Watts was his usual ball-hawk self, collecting seven tackles, including one tackle for loss. He currently carries an early-to-mid round draft grade.
An unsung hero of the defense would be RJ Oben, who transferred in along with quarterback Riley Leonard from Duke for his final season. Oben made the biggest play of his career when he forced a strip-sack fumble on Bulldogs signal-caller Gunner Stockton. The Fighting Irish would recover, as the turnover setup a Beaux Collins touchdown right before the end of the first half, leaving the Bulldogs deflated.
