ALL ACCESS: CFL WEEK 7 PREVIEW
This week, All Access Football examines the alternate football landscape with a look at the upcoming CFL slate schedule for this weekend, along with a season wrap of the Continental Football League. Just a reminder, you can catch all the CFL action on CFL+ and CBS Sports.
Fri - 7/17: BC (1-3) at Edmonton (4-1) [9p ET]
The Elks enter Week 7 tied neck-and-neck with Saskatchewan for first place in the West Division. Edmonton running back Justin Rankin is enjoying a season for the ages and is on pace to shatter the CFL total scrimmage yards single-season record of 2,414, set by Canadian Hall of Fame inductee Mike Pringle back in 1998. Through five games, Rankin has accumulated 810 total yards (513 rushing; 297 receiving) and seven total touchdowns. Betting Line: Edmonton -3 (60.5)
Sat - 7/18: Montreal (4-1) at Calgary (2-3) [4p ET]
The Alouettes sit atop the East Division in first place, as the only organization with a winning record through the first third of the season. Montreal wideout Tyson Philpot (pic: CFL) has been on a tear, racking up an additional 132 yards and a score last week during their win over Calgary. Philpot leads the CFL with 719 receiving yards; Saskatchewan wideout KeeSean Johnson (479 yards) trails by 240 yards. Betting Line: Calgary -1.5 (62.5)
Sat - 7/17: Toronto (2-3) at Hamilton (2-3) [7:30p ET]
In a critical East Division matchup, the Argonauts visit the Tiger-Cats with both teams currently tied for second place. A win by either team would give them the upper-hand in the playoff standings. Argos signal-caller Chad Kelly leads the CFL with 1,804 passing yards and is tied for the league lead with 14 touchdowns. However, Kelly has already matched last season’s total of eight interceptions in just five games. Betting Line: Toronto -5 (55.5)
Sun - 7/18: Winnipeg (3-2) at Ottawa (0-5) [7p ET]
The REDBLACKS enter this matchup on a 10-day layoff and will then go onto their second bye week of the regular season. The time off could not come quick enough, as the organization looks to reset a dismal rebuilding season, which has not gone according to plan. With starter Jake Maeir struggling, veteran McLeod Bethel Thompson could see his first start of the season. Betting Line: Winnipeg -3.5 (56.5)
ALL-CoFL TEAM & AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED
The Continental Football League has concluded its season. The undefeated San Antonio Toros (5-0) were crowned the CoFL champions, led by head coach Stan Bedwell and defensive coordinator Jerry Glanville. Despite several teams facing financial issues, the league intends to move forward in 2027.
Upon the conclusion of the 2026 season, the CoFL has since moved their league headquarters to Indianapolis. New commissioner Manny Matsakis has taken over for Mike Kelly, who announced his retirement after one year. All Access Football will continue to monitor the progress of the CoFL, which fills the void of outdoor, tackle football during the summer.
The CoFL has announced its 2026 League Awards and All-CoFL Team selections, recognizing the players who made the biggest impact throughout the season. Selected through input from CoFL head coaches and football professionals, this year’s honorees represent the qualities that define the league: talent, consistency, toughness, leadership and a commitment to raising the standard of play, per the league website. 2026 CoFL MVP: Will Arndt, QB, San Antonio
Standing at 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, Arndt delivered a strong season that showcased his ability as both a passer and playmaker. For the year, he completed 106-of-161 attempts (65.8%), for 1,386 passing yards, 17 passing touchdowns, seven interceptions, along with 90 rushing yards and two rushing scores.
2026 CoFL OPOY: Cam Echols-Luper, WR, San Antonio
The offensive spotlight belongs to Echols-Luper, who was recognized as the CoFL’s top offensive player. On the season, he totaled 20 catches, for 342 receiving yards and four touchdowns. For those CFL teams in need of wideout depth, they may want to kick the tires on the Toros playmaker.
2026 CoFL DPOY: Justin Whiteside, LB, Tall City
Defense was led by Whiteside, a linebacker for the Tall City Black Gold, who earned CoFL Defensive Player of the Year honors for his performance. Whiteside racked up 41 tackles, nine and a half tackles for loss (one sack), six quarterback pressures, three pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and one touchdown.
2026 All-CoFL Team
Team features standout players from across the league, representing excellence on both sides of the ball.
