NFL POWER RANKINGS
We saw some excellent matchups during the first week of the NFL season. Despite Detroit squeezing out a victory over Los Angeles, the Rams remain our favorite to take home the Vince Lombardi Trophy come February. Were these teams to play 10 times, they would probably win five apiece. On a neutral site, we would lean towards Sean McVay and Company. The same could be said for Kansas City and Baltimore. While ranking the Chiefs fifth appears foolish on the surface, please keep in mind that this list is a final projection and not solely reflected upon Week 1 action.
Los Angeles Rams
Baltimore Ravens
San Francisco 49ers
Houston Texans
Kansas City Chiefs
Detroit Lions
Miami Dolphins
Philadelphia Eagles
Buffalo Bills
Los Angeles Chargers
NFL QB RANKINGS
The NFL is a young man’s game and that includes the quarterback position. Our top five signal-callers are all age 28 years old, or younger. A remarkable shift amongst the premier gunslingers in the NFL has occurred in recent seasons and nine quarterbacks total have been selected in the first round of the draft over the past two years, so some new names could eventually work their way up the ranks. With Cowboys front man Dak Prescott receiving a new $60M/year contract this past week, the 49ers Brock Purdy would seem to be the next in line to receive a significant pay increase in the near future.
Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs
Lamar Jackson, Ravens
Brock Purdy, 49ers
Joe Burrow, Bengals
Jalen Hurts, Eagles
Matthew Stafford, Rams
Josh Allen, Bills
CJ Stroud, Texans
Aaron Rodgers, Jets
Dak Prescott, Cowboys
CFB POWER RANKINGS
Is anyone surprised that the Bulldogs haven’t skipped a beat after re-loading once again? No. Kirby Smart remains the top recruiter in the game. However, Longhorns headman Steve Sarkisian has built something special in Austin and the depth Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin has accumulated can match up with any team in the nation. Add Ryan Day and the Buckeyes to the ‘Tier 1’ of powerhouse programs, as these teams are just a cut above the rest of the competition based on the eye test. Those four will be very tough to knock off!
Ole Miss Rebels
Texas Longhorns
Georgia Bulldogs
Ohio State Buckeyes
Alabama Crimson Tide
USC Trojans
Miami Hurricanes
Oregon Ducks
Tennessee Volunteers
Penn State Nittany Lions
HEISMAN TROPHY WATCH
The NFL stars of tomorrow are making a great impact today on the collegiate level. No one is playing at a higher level than Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss and Quinn Ewers of Texas right now. Georgia quarterback Carson Beck looks every bit like the potential No.1 overall pick he is projected to be. Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty is off to an eye-popping start but can he maintain the pace? Colorado iron-man athlete Travis Hunter continues to play an impressive amount of snaps, while making a major impact on both sides of the ball. However, if the Buffaloes continue to stall against top-ranked opponents, it will become difficult for Hunter to remain in the running.
Jaxson Dart, QB, Ole Miss
Quinn Ewers, QB, Texas
Carson Beck, QB, Georgia
Jalen Milroe, QB, Alabama
Cam Ward, QB, Miami
Miller Moss, QB, USC
Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State
Dillon Gabriel, QB, Oregon
Travis Hunter, WR/CB, Colorado
Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona
NFL DRAFT TOP 10 PROSPECTS
It could become a fascinating case study once Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is placed under the microscope by NFL general managers. Poor offensive line play has led to duress in the pocket, rushed throws and unorthodox mechanics, making for a tough evaluation. Still, we have seen elite quarterbacks in the past such as Matt Ryan (Boston College) and John Elway (Stanford) do more with less. At some point, Sanders will need to be able to show he can will his team to victory and also embrace some of the responsibility that comes along with playing as a ‘team.’ It would not be surprising to learn that some decision-makers could be feeling a bit queasy about making him the face of a franchise.
Carson Beck, QB, Georgia
Travis Hunter, CB, Colorado
James Pearce Jr., ER, Tennessee, Jr.
Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona
Luther Burden III, WR, Missouri
Tre Harris, WR, Mississippi
Mason Graham, DT, Michigan
Malaki Starks, S, Georgia
Mykel Williams, DE, Ohio State
Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado
