Changing of the Guard: The Washington Commanders Bid Farewell to Dan Snyder
Insights from Draftnick Ric on the Impact of New Ownership and the Future of the Franchise

“The most in-depth draft guide ever seen.” – Dick Vermeil, 2022 Pro Football HOF Inductee
Hey there, Draftnick Community and those readers in Washington! It's your boy, DraftnickRic, here to talk about the latest buzz in the NFL scouting community. And boy, oh boy, is it juicy. It looks like Dan Snyder, the notorious owner of the Washington football team, is finally saying "se lavie" (that's French for "goodbye") to the franchise after a tumultuous tenure filled with scandal and mismanagement. It's about time, if you ask me.
Washington Commanders – Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State: The best player available meets the team need scenario. The addition of Porter Jr. to the Commanders' defense fits right in with the team identity. A lengthy, physical defender who has shown a propensity for making game-changing plays, Porter Jr., following in his father’s footsteps, has superstar written all over him.
Now, I know what you're thinking. How on earth did Snyder manage to hold onto the team for a whopping 24 years despite being a terrible owner? Well, my friends, it's all about the power of being filthy rich and having fellow NFL owners who don't want to set a precedent of firing each other.
You may also be thinking, "What are the scouts going to do with so much change before the draft?" Well, hold on to your scouting hats, because things are about to change. Snyder has agreed to sell the team, and the buyer is none other than Josh Harris, with Magic Johnson also rumored to be involved. This is NFL-level seismic contingency planning, and news that guys like me live and breathe to talk about.
Snyder took over a franchise that was performing well, with Super Bowl wins and a strong connection to the community, and proceeded to drive it into the ground, both on and off the field. The team's winning percentage dropped from nearly 60 percent under the previous owner to a dismal 43 percent under Snyder's reign. That's a clear indication of how bad he was as an owner.
Change itself is already a big step in the right direction, as noted by David Aldridge. And I'm sure my fellow Draftnick Community in Washington is eagerly waiting to see what Harris and his crew will do with the team. In the meantime, stay tuned for more updates and insights from yours truly as I’m with the scouting community in San Diego.

The C.O. Brocato Memorial Award honors the distinguished pro football evaluator who has dedicated a lifetime of service to the scouting community.
This year’s winner happens to be one of the most well-distinguished NFL front office personnel executives in the history of the NFL. New York Giants executive scout Jeremiah Davis, who just completed his 34th season as a member of the Giants organization was announced as the 4th Annual ITL C.O. Brocato Memorial Award winner. The award was once again presented by Becky Brocato, the daughter of C.O.
Prior to joining New York, Davis enjoyed stints on staff at Wyoming, Washington, Grambling State, Northern Iowa, Central Florida, Purdue, and Tennessee-Martin. He has worked alongside legends such as Don James, Eddie Robinson, Joe Tiller, Dan Reeves, Tom Coughlin, and Bill Parcells. In addition, Davis has helped construct three Super Bowl Champion teams. What’s more, he’s not just a football man, but also a family man. He and his wife, Marilyn, have a son, Jeremiah, and a daughter, Chloe. It’s safe to say, there is not a man more deserving of this honor, congrats JD.
