NO.15 MICHIGAN (1-0) AT NO.18 OKLAHOMA (1-0)

Saturday, September 6, 2025 || Memorial Stadium (Norman, OK) || 7:30p ESPN

The Michigan Wolverines roll into Norman to face the Oklahoma Sooners, in a showdown littered with future NFL pros.

While both teams took care of business during their opening week opponents, this game is sure to be a tone-setter with heavy implications on the College Football Playoff picture. For Michigan, who is just two years removed from their National Championship campaign, the Wolverines have resorted back to their lethal ground game, led by dynamic runner Justice Haynes, who racked up 159 rushing yards and three scores last week against New Mexico. A hard-nosed runner with great vision, contact balance and the ability to break tackles, Haynes is viewed as a solid mid-round prospect who fits the Wolverines scheme like a glove.

However, NFL scouts will have their eyes glued to the defensive side of the ball, where rising redshirt sophomore cornerback Jyaire Hill has displayed the versatility and lockdown ability to be considered amongst the top cover corners in the nation. Michigan also boats a stellar front line unit on defense with pass-rushers Derrick Moore and Jaishawn Barham, plus defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny.

On the Oklahoma side of the ball, the Sooners will look to exploit the Michigan defense with a highly talented offensive cast, including California transfer running back Jaydn Ott. An injury-riddled 2024 campaign, has cast somewhat of a murky cloud over the draft status surrounding Ott. Viewed as a potential first round pick after a sensational sophomore season, in which he gained 1,315 rushing yards and totaled 14 touchdowns, Ott has since appeared to be a shell of himself and was limited to just three carries during the Sooners romp over Illinois State a week ago. Will this be the week where Ott is unleashed?

Of course, Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer arrived to Norman from Washington State with his own off-field concerns, as he created a stir this offseason. Mateer was the subject of gambling allegations, which surfaced in August after screenshots of his Venmo transactions from 2022, labeled ‘sports gambling,’ went viral. The Sooners signal-caller has since denied those rumors but NFL decision-makers will be sure to investigate the matter, as they continue to do their due diligence in the evaluation process. On the field, Mateer displays tremendous athleticism with the natural ability to improvise and extend plays on the move. The Wolverines defense will be the biggest challenge yet of his young career.

Look for Mateer to target speedy wideout Deion Burks (photo above: courtesy of Oklahoma Athletics) early and often in this affair. For Burks, who grew up in Michigan between Detroit and Ann Arbor, the game is personal. His first desire was to play for the Wolverines coming out of Belleville High School but the call never came, according to Burks. He’ll look to prove Michigan wrong on their decision to bypass the explosive playmaker. Oklahoma has several potential draft targets on the defensive side of the ball as well, with edge rusher R Mason Thomas leading the charge.

This game also includes a rare matchup with two fullbacks on the NFL Draft radar in Michigan bruiser Max Bredeson, the younger brother of former Michigan and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard, Ben Bredeson, along with Jaren Kanak of Oklahoma, a converted linebacker, who has emerged as a potential playmaker at the fullback / tight end positions.

In total, we have highlighted over 30 prospects on the 2026 NFL Draft radar for the Michigan at Oklahoma game below, complete with in-depth scouting reports on key players, verified measurements and NFL Draft projections.
