OBSERVERS WATCH AS THE QB WORLD TURNS
This weekend’s college football schedule allowed for an excellent look at the top signal-callers eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft. Upon further in-depth examination, Cameron Ward of Miami is our number one quarterback prospect.
In a shootout against Louisville, Ward preserved the Hurricanes undefeated season, throwing for 319 yards (his seventh consecutive game of at least 300 passing yards), four touchdowns and no interceptions, while demonstrating elite level traits.
The ability Ward possesses to extend plays, throw on the run and zip the ball on a dime half the distance of the football field with a simple flick of the wrist was on full display Saturday afternoon. Not only is he the top-rated quarterback but also a leading contender for the Heisman Trophy.
Next up was Jalen Milroe of Alabama, who ran into a buzzsaw this week that was the Tennessee Volunteers. Milroe has flashed franchise quarterback ability but has struggled with his consistency in 2024. Poor decision-making was costly for Milroe, who threw two more interceptions against the Vols. He has now thrown six interceptions in his past four games, which matches his entire total for all of last season.
In contrast to Ward, the Crimson Tide dual threat has thrown for 300 passing yards just twice on the year but Milroe has provided an additional 330 rushing yards and 11 scores via the ground, which makes him armed and dangerous through the air, or as a runner. With four more SEC foes on the calendar for Alabama, Milroe will have plenty of opportunity to recapture his once promising NFL Draft stock.
The prime time matchup of the week featured Georgia vs Texas, in a showdown between the two odds-on favorites in Vegas to be the number one overall pick this upcoming April. While Bulldogs captain Carson Beck came away victorious in the ‘upset’ over the top-ranked Longhorns, he added three more interceptions on the evening (no touchdowns).
Turnovers are something that has been alarmingly associated with Beck, who has thrown eight interceptions on the year, which is as many as he has had the previous three seasons combined. One could argue that Beck is the most polished quarterback in college football but his propensity to take risks could become a raised concern for NFL evaluators.
For Texas, starter Quinn Ewers has been underwhelming since returning from an oblique injury two weeks ago. In fact, no one would have blamed Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, if he benched Ewers in favor of backup sensation Arch Manning after his disappointing performance. However, Sarkisian has since given Ewers a vote of confidence by sticking with Ewers as the starter.
Based on performance and durability concerns, Ewers could be viewed as a Day 2 prospect by some front office personnel. He clearly has more to prove to NFL scouts than any other quarterback in first round consideration from this point out.
Meanwhile, the buzz surrounding Shedeur Sanders in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado had died down a bit after coming out of the gates like gangbusters to start the season. However, Sanders has begun to heat up over the past several weeks, buried on late night television.
What is most impressive about Sanders is that he, more than any other signal-caller mentioned above, puts his team on his back at times and wills his team to victory, even in games they are not supposed to win. Such was the case on Saturday night, as they traveled into Tuscon and came away victorious over Arizona, as Sanders turned in another gritty performance.
When projecting Sanders to the pros, one might conclude that he could be an even more prolific player at the next level when he is surrounded by NFL talent, which keeps him in contention to be the top quarterback chosen. Currently, he sits as our No.2 rated signal-caller behind Ward, followed by Milroe, then Beck and Ewers.
Below is our updated overall Big Board rankings for the 2025 NFL Draft, which we have expanded to include the top 64 eligible prospects.

The Dawgs front seven dominated...Ewers and Arch Manning were overwhelmed. Hell, Peyton Manning couldn't have performed well against those mad Dawgs.
