On Location: 5 Observations From Patriots Training Camp

ON LOCATION: NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP
The All Access Football training camp tour is underway. Our first pit-stop lands us in Foxborough, Massachusetts, where NFL Draft Bible scout Will Donoghue was in attendance for New England Patriots training camp on Friday, July 31st.
Here are five observations from practice that caught our attention:
The Drake Maye era enters year three and the All Pro quarterback is operating with a calm, cool demeanor in his second camp as the full-time starter. With a more assumed leadership role, Maye has complete command of the huddle and has noticeably sped up his deliver, getting the ball out extremely fast. Highlights from the day included a connection with a wide open AJ Brown during the first team period, along with a touchdown toss to Hunter Henry inside the red zone.
New England first round pick Caleb Lomu has been taking reps with the first team offense at right tackle. The offensive line was a key area of emphasis that the organization made a conscious effort to upgrade this offseason. The selection of Lomu is a big part of the plan to help solidify the unit up front. While he looked formidable on this day, the rookie is still adapting to the pros and struggled against pass-rusher Elijah Ponder during one-on-one drills. Ponder, an undrafted free agent (2025) out of Cal Poly, has looked vastly improved early on.
