NFL TRADE DEADLINE DEALS: RANKING THE ACQUISITIONS

The NFL Trade Deadline on Tuesday came and passed in a flurry, as contenders jockey themselves for the stretch run of the regular season. A total of six trades were orchestrated on deadline day but in total, there have been 24 trades made this season, the most in one year since the start of the century!

It was the Indianapolis Colts who made the biggest splash of the day, acquiring two-time All Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets. Indianapolis currently holds the No.1 seed in the AFC and had no qualms mortgaging the future to capitalize on their best opportunity to win a Super Bowl since the Peyton Manning era. The Colts gave up first-round picks in the 2026 and 2027 NFL Drafts for the rights to Gardner, who is expected to step in immediately as CB1 on a defense that currently ranks 26th overall in the NFL. The resurgence of quarterback Daniel Jones has revitalized this organization and general manager Chris Ballard pounced on an opportunity to add what could be a major impact difference-maker. The deal was reportedly initiated by Ballard on Tuesday morning and was finalized by the afternoon. It’s safe to assume the Colts are all-in.

Meanwhile, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones delivered on his trade promise, also getting in on the New York fire sale, adding All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams from the Jets, who accumulated an additional first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. Williams will certainly boost the pass-rush from the interior and helps off-set the loss of Micah Parsons but is it too little too late? At 3-5-1, Dallas currently sits as the No.11 seed in the NFC and are three losses behind the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC standings. In a minor move, the Cowboys added linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals. With games still remaining against the Eagles, Lions, Vikings, Commanders and Giants, America’s Team can still dictate their own destiny but they’ll need to catch fire.

For the New York Jets, a dismal franchise that has lost 111 games over the past 10 years (most in the NFL), they follow suit in the vicious rinse and repeat cycle of ‘wait until next year.’ In dealing off two cornerstone pieces in a pair of blockbuster deals, the Jets now own a combined five first-round picks and three second-round selections for the 2026 and 2027 NFL Drafts. It sounds good in theory but this is an organization known for draft day debacles and intensifies the pressure on first-year general manager Darren Mougey, whose ability to evaluate talent from the college ranks will ultimately dictate what direction the Jets move towards in the future. Clearly, New York will be active in the quarterback sweepstakes this offseason. One critical decision they’ll be forced to make is whether to use their draft equity to acquire a proven veteran such as Kyler Murray, or roll the dice in what is considered to be a ‘questionable’ QB class in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Lastly, the NFL trade deadline wouldn’t be complete without the Philadelphia Eagles, who hope to catch lighting in a bottle with their acquisition of Jaelan Phillips from the Miami Dolphins. Phillips previously played in the Vic Fangio system during their time together in Miami and it should be a rather smooth transition. Philadelphia also acquired two-time All Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander during their bye week. While Alexander appeared in just two games for the Baltimore Ravens, this is a low risk, high reward type move that would seem to strengthen the Eagles shaky secondary. The Eagles are built for the long haul. Philadelphia is an organization that knows how to get the job done, with a relentless general manager in Howie Roseman who is constantly improving the roster and a proven head coach in Nick Sirianni, who has handled the biggest of personalities in the sixth largest market in America. The Eagles would appear to be a tough king to knock from atop the throne!

With the recent transactions, Philadelphia sits atop our NFL Power Rankings below. Meanwhile, the wheeling and dealing Roseman was quoted by Zach Berman of The Athletic saying, “For us, where we are as a team, what we believe is important to win a world championship and it being a great team, it wasn’t a hard to trade to make.”

We have ranked all the NFL Trade Deadline deals below:

  • INDIANAPOLIS COLTS: Acquire CB Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets in exchange for WR AD Mitchell, plus first-round picks in the 2026 and 2027 NFL Drafts.

  • DALLAS COWBOYS: Acquire DT Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick, 2027 first-round pick and defensive tackle Mazi Smith. Dallas also acquired LB Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick.

  • PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: Acquire DE Jaelan Phillips from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick. Philadelphia previously added CB Jaire Alexander and a 2027 seventh-round pick from the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick. Additionally, the Eagles added CB Michael Carter II and a 2027 seventh-round pick from the New York Jets in exchange for WR John Metchie and a 2027 sixth-round pick.

NCAA & AFCA ANNOUNCE FCS SHOWCASE IN NASHVILLE

In an unprecedented move, the NCAA, in collaboration with the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and the NFL, announced they will host an FCS Showcase during the 2026 Division I FCS championship in Nashville, Tennessee, in January. The event provides a much-needed platform for small school prospects who often get overlooked during the pre-draft process.

There were 15 FCS players chosen in the 2025 NFL Draft, including Seattle Seahawks first round selection Grey Zabel of North Dakota State, who became the sixth FCS first-round selection since 2016. Since 2022, there have been a total of 62 players drafted from the FCS ranks.

The FCS Showcase will feature approximately 50 prospects, with complete evaluations by NFL team scouting staffs, while leveraging the national spotlight of the FCS championship. The championship game will be played Monday, January 5th, in Vanderbilt’s FirstBank Stadium and broadcast on ESPN.

Each NFL club has been asked to nominate a list of 10-15 top prospects it would like to evaluate at the event. Only players who are considered automatically eligible for the 2026 NFL draft are eligible to attend; underclassmen will not be considered. All Access Football will be on location to provide exclusive coverage of the FCS Showcase.

SUN DEVILS SIGNAL-CALLER SHUT DOWN FOR THE SEASON

As the 2026 NFL Draft quarterback class continues to take shape, it could quite possibly be down another potential top signal-caller. Arizona State prospect Sam Leavitt is expected to undergo surgery to repair a lingering foot injury suffered in mid-September, which will effectively end his season.

While Leavitt was not viewed to be amongst the potential first round quarterbacks in the upcoming draft, he was considered to be a solid Day 2 prospect and is currently rated the No.9 ranked draft-eligible quarterback, according to NFL Draft Bible. On the season, Leavitt was completing 60.7% of his passes, for 1,628 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions in seven games.

The redshirt sophomore now faces a decision on his future, whether to return back to Arizona State, test his value in the NCAA transfer portal in seek of an NIL payday, or dip his toes in the 2026 NFL Draft pool. Sun Devils head coach Kenny Dillingham commented on Leavitt’s status this week.

“He’s got to get surgery. He’s got to take care of himself. I’ll probably give him a couple weeks and, you know, let him get through this. We’re not in a rush,” Dillingham stated. “I want him to make the best decision for him in terms of whether you need to go pro or not. And you know what him and his team believe are the best decision for him? You know, that’s why I do this. So, you know, give them some time to get healthy and get surgery done with and get back around the team and and get his head, you know, back in a good direction of progress.”

With Leavitt and Dillingham reportedly having a strong relationship, the odds are in favor of him returning to Tempe for another year. That would ultimately mean one less top-caliber signal-caller to evaluate in this year’s draft class, which has been a bit underwhelming up to this point.
