SAN ANTONIO TOROS MAKE EARLY STATEMENT
The CoFL continues to build momentum during the start of their summer league, with nearly 10k viewers tuning in to watch the San Antonio Toros (2-0) trounce the Tall City Black Gold (0-2), by a whopping score of 59-0. The game was played at the Wheatley Heights Sports Complex in San Antonio.
San Antonio has quickly catapulted atop the standing and is clearly the team to beat. The Toros defense, led by legendary 84-year old coordinator Jerry Glanville, has been ‘Closed For Business,’ as they have yet to allow a point through two regular season games and one preseason game.
In fact, the defense has allowed just 234 total yards, while the Toros offense has racked up 154 points and 1,340 yards. Much of the credit can be attributed to San Antonio director of player personnel John Peterson, who has spent the past 40 years as a scout for the NFL, CFL, XFL, amongst others.
Toros quarterback Will Arndt continued his hot streak, completing 15-of-25 passes, for 202 yards and three touchdowns (one interception), while running back Andrew Henry added 78 rushing yards on nine carries and a score.
Several San Antonio wideouts made big plays, including Chris Carpenter, who led all receivers with 106 yards and added a score. One of the premier players in the CoFL is Toros target Cam Echols-Luper, who found pay-dirt for a second consecutive week and contributed four catches, for 43 yards.
The stymie San Antonio defense would finish with six sacks on the day, led by Myles McHaney, who had a blocked kick last week and added five tackles, plus one sack in Week 3. Toros safety Obi Melifonwu got in on the block party this week, adding another blocked kick on special teams, while adding three tackles.
Other standouts included defensive lineman Ramon Puryear, who led all defenders with seven tackles, including two tackles for loss, plus one and a half sacks, along with cornerback Lu-Magia Hearns, who added an 82-yard interception return for a touchdown, adding two pass deflections.
The San Antonio Toros (2-0) will host the Texas Syndicate (1-1) in Week 4, while the Tall City Black Gold (0-2) will host the Texas Herd (0-0). (pic: San Antonio Toros)

In other CoFL Week 3 action, the Ohio Valley Ironmen (1-0) won their season debut, led by head coach Manny Matsakis, downing the Cincinnati Dukes (1-1) by a score of 35-7 at Mason High School Football Stadium in Mason, Ohio.
Ohio Valley gained 358 yards of total offense, compared to just 181 yards for Cincinnati, despite the Dukes running four more plays during the game. Ironmen signal-caller Javonte Howard completed 15-of-23 passes, for 246 yards but did throw a pair of interceptions.
Former Virginia Union running back Jada Byers added 69 rushing yards on four carries for Ohio Valley, while the defense was led by defensive end Chance Knight, who collected five tackles, including two sacks.
For Cincinnati, quarterback Kimani Murray, a top performer a week ago, was held in check by the Ironmen defense, as he completed just 15-of-33 passes, for 160 yards and tossed two interceptions. Dukes safety Jaylen Feltha contributed eight tackles, including one tackle for loss and one pass breakup.
Tall City Black Gold (0-2) will return to Astound Broadband Stadium to host the Texas Herd (0-0) in Week 4, while the Cincinnati Dukes (1-1) will be on a bye week.
