2025 NFL DRAFT BIG BOARD: CENTERS
The center position is the least glorified position in professional football. In fact, rarely do you see centers celebrated, or discussed on NFL pre-game shows the way other type of athletes are bandied about.
However, at the root of every successful team, you are likely to find a smart, dependable center. Often times, the center can serve as an extension of the coaching staff on the field, communicating with fellow line-mates, or even guiding a young quarterback with pre-snap reads and audibles.
For the previous 13 seasons, former Philadelphia Eagles six-time All-Pro Jason Kelce was considered the NFL’s gold standard. Upon his retirement, the torch has since been handed off to the likes of Frank Ragnow of the Detroit Lions and Creed Humpfrey of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Other top-tier centers would include Tyler Linderbaum of the Baltimore Ravens and Ryan Kelly of the Indianapolis Colts. In addition, we also saw two rookies step in and make an immediate impact this past year with the likes of Tampa Bay Buccaneers first round pick Graham Barton and Pittsburgh Steelers second round selection Zach Frazier, both of whom figure to be staples of their respective offensive lines for years to come.
You will notice that the majority of the centers mentioned above were true, traditional centers, a pattern that has remained consistent during our time covering the draft.
This year’s draft class features several potential next level starters but no real consensus in terms of the top overall prospect. Many prefer Senior Bowl standout Jonah Monheim of USC who proved to have a stout anchor, excellent bend and agility, or Jared Wilson of Georgia who brings a proven SEC resume.
Our top player that we have evaluated would be Drew Kendall of Boston College. His performance at the East-West Shrine Bowl forced us to circle back to his film and it showed a fundamentally sound center with a high football IQ, excellent hand placement and the ability to be an effective pull blocker.
Other prospects worth monitoring come draft day would be Seth McLaughlin of Ohio State, whose stellar play earned him an invite to the Reese’s Senior Bowl but he was forced to bow out due to a ruptured Achilles tendon. He could provide Day 3 upside for teams willing to demonstrate patience with his recovery. The most polarizing player of the group would be Willie Lampkin of Coastal Carolina. At 5-foot-10, Lampkin is an anomaly but he proved in Mobile that he can compete with the best of the best. Below is an updated big board for the 2025 NFL Draft center class.
