ALL ACCESS FOOTBALL REPORT
The start of NFL training camps are just days away … the Los Angeles Chargers will be the first organization to report, as rookies are scheduled to arrive this Saturday, July 12th. The Chargers will face the Detroit Lions in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game on July 31st in Canton, Ohio. All veterans will have reported to NFL training camps by July 23rd, as the NFL begins their season earlier than ever. Back to the bustle!
In alternate football news, it has been relatively slow on the UFL-to-NFL signings front, as just 11 players from the United Football League have inked NFL contracts. We will continue to monitor these transactions, as there are expected to be more before the start of training camp.
In the meantime, be sure to check out our NFL Yearbook Series, as we count you down with 32 team previews in 32 days, leading up to the Hall of Fame Game. If you missed any of our countdown, you can get caught up with these quick links:

CFL POWER RANKINGS
It was another exciting week of CFL action, as special teams was at the forefront of the Canada Day Weekend festivities. Four players found paydirt on kick returns, including Javon Leake (Edmonton), Isaiah Wooden (Hamilton), Kalil Pimpleton (Ottowa), and Janarion Grant (Toronto). After five weeks, the Saskatchewan Roughriders (coming off a bye week) remain the only undefeated team in the CFL. Here’s a look at the week that was north of the border:
RANK || TEAM || RECORD
Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-0): Quarterback Trevor Harris was back in his familiar starting spot as Saskatchewan returned to practice following the team’s first bye week of the season, according to the Regina Leader Post. Backup Jake Maier filled in nicely during the Roughriders Week 4 win over BC. Top wideout target Shane Bane Jr., who has yet to play this season, also returned to practice in a limited capacity. His status remains uncertain for their Week 5 matchup versus division-rival Calgary.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers (3-1): The Blue Bombers fell behind big early on and could never find their momentum, falling to Calgary 37-16. Quarterback Zach Collaros threw two costly interceptions during the loss, while wide receiver Kevens Clercius continues to blossom as one of the best young wideouts in the CFL, adding 10 catches for 78 yards. Linebacker Tony Jones has been a menace on defense this year with 27 tackles through the first four games. Winnipeg is on a bye in Week 6.
Montreal Alouettes (3-2): The Alouettes found themselves on the wrong end of a last-second field goal by BC, losing 21-20 for their second consecutive loss in a row. Fill-in quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson struggled to find his rhythm and kicker Jose Carlos Maltos missed a key field goal attempt, as the Lions rallied to score 12 points in the fourth quarter. Montreal awaits the return of starter Davis Alexander as they enter the bye this week.
Calgary Stampeders (3-1): Calgary dominated the inaugural ‘Stampede Bowl,’ downing Winnipeg 37-16 behind quarterback Vernon Adams, who finished with 222 passing yards and a pair of touchdown tosses (no interceptions). The Stampeders also received big contributions on defense from linebacker Derrick Moncrief, who had five tackles, including two tackles for loss and one interception. Calgary has clearly been the most improved team in the CFL this season. The Stampeders will attempt to deal Saskatchewan their first loss on Friday.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-2): Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell became the 11th player in CFL history to throw for 40,000 career passing yards during the Tiger-Cats 51-38 victory over the Argonauts. He would go onto finish with a perfect QB Rating of 158.3 for the fourth time in his career, completing 19-of-24 passes, for 332 yards and five touchdowns. Top target Kenny Lawler had 207 of receiving yards, setting a new career-high. The game was marred by a post-game brawl, involving former NFL second round pick Kemoko Turay. Hamilton will host Ottawa on Saturday.
Toronto Argonauts (1-4): While Toronto awaits the return of starting quarterback Chad Kelly, the Argos have some holes on defense that need to be filled. The defending champs fell to Hamilton in a shootout 51-38. One bright spot this season has been wideout Kevin Mital, who has picked up right where he left off last season. The Argos 2024 first round pick has nabbed 27 passes, for 298 yards through the first five weeks of the season. Toronto is on a bye this week.
BC Lions (2-3): Quarterback Nathan Rourke returned to the starting lineup to guide BC to a last-second, come from behind victory over Montreal with a clutch completion to Jevon Cottoy, which would setup the game winning field goal for kicker Shawn White. Rourke would finish with 352 passing yards and 43 rushing yards but it was White who came up money, nailing all three of his field goals, including the 43-yard game winner. The Lions will visit the Elks on Sunday. (photo above: CFL Communications)
Edmonton Elks (1-3): Quarterback Tre Ford had a perfect QB Rating of 158.3 for the second time in his career, completing 15-of-17 passes, for 212 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Justin Rankin added 174 scrimmage yards, including a 45-yard touchdown reception and a 76-yard rushing score, as the Elks downed the Redblacks 39-33. Edmonton will host BC this Sunday.
Ottawa Redblacks (1-4): The Redblacks entered Week 5 leading the CFL in penalties per game (10) and ranking second in penalty yards per game (82.8). That trend continued this past week, as Ottawa was flagged for 118 penalty yards during their 39-33 loss against Edmonton. CFL all-star Eugene Lewis had eight catches, for 75 yards and one score against his old team in his return to Commonwealth Stadium. Ottawa will visit Hamilton on Saturday.
