The Pittsburgh Steelers are an organization built on continuity. Brought up through the system, Omar Kahn enters his sixth season as general manager but his 27th year overall with the club. It’s how Pittsburgh does business. Remarkably, Mike McCarthy is just the fourth head coach for the franchise since 1969.

Previously, Mike Tomlin (2007-2025) held the job for 18 years, Bill Cowher (1992-2006) held the role for 14 years and Chuck Knoll (1969-1991) served for 22 years. Both Cowher and Knoll are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. All four coaches have won a Super Bowl, however, McCarthy won his with the Packers back in 2011, when Green Bay defeated Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XLV.

Pittsburgh is a veteran-led team with the likes of future Hall of Fame inductees such as quarterback Aaron Rodgers, defensive tackle Cam Heyward and defensive end TJ Watt. A deeper look at their roster reveals the masterful job that Kahn and his front office department have done accumulating future building blocks.

One philosophy that many successful teams share in common is building from the inside out. In each of the last four years, the Steelers have used their first round pick to select a lineman. Most recently, the team chose offensive tackle Max Iheanachor (pic: Steelers) in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. In 2025, they selected defensive tackle Derrick Harmon, the year before in 2024, they chose offensive tackle Troy Fautanu and in 2023 their top draft choice was offensive tackle Broderick Jones.

In fact, the entire projected starting offensive line unit for Pittsburgh are all 25 years-old, or younger! Working from center-to-right is Zach Frazier, guard Mason McCormick and tackle Fautanu, all members of their 2024 draft haul, as they continue to make great strides. A day three selection from the FCS ranks, McCormick has been a revelation.
