ON LOCATION: NEW YORK JETS SCRIMMAGE
All Access Football was on location for the second day of the New York Jets scrimmage against the New York Giants. Between the two organizations, there has been plenty of new faces for the Tri-State area to get familiar with. For Gang Green, first-year head coach Aaron Glenn has been credited for running a more physical training camp than has been accustomed to in Florham Park, New Jersey. However, on this day, the Jets would travel 30 minutes to East Rutherford to scrimmage the Giants in a two hour session that did not include any tackling. Along the way, we picked up special guest and friend Connie Carberg (pictured below), the first female scout in NFL history. Credited for the Jets selections of Mark Gastineau and Wesley Walker, the legendary Carberg has attended New York Jets training camp for 61 straight consecutive years! It was an educational scouting trip, mixed with tremendous stories and lots of fun … here’s what we learned from the Jets practice scrimmage.

1. No More Club Med.
The arrival of former New York Jets player Aaron Glenn, as new head coach has brought drastic changes. The previous regime was a very player-friendly atmosphere and the team became allergic to physicality under the practices ran by Robert Saleh. Those days are long gone, as Glenn has pushed the boundary on how much contact has been encouraged during training camp. Known to be a fiery leader as both a player and a coach, Glenn does stem from the Bill Parcells tree, whom is a close mentor. It remains to be seen how much of the new mentality translates over to game day but Jets fans should be encouraged by the new tone set by Glenn. The old way had clearly proven to fail.
2. Justin Fields Born Again.
While it was only a joint practice scrimmage, one must wonder the thoughts running through Justin Fields’ mind as he stared on the opposite side of the field at Russell Wilson. Of course, Fields was benched in favor of Wilson in Pittsburgh last year after firing out of the gate and guiding the Steelers to a 4-2 start. The team would finish 10-7 with Wilson at the helm. What could have been? In New York, Fields won’t have anyone looking over his shoulder. This is his team for 2025 and his renowned faith has been an inspiration on how he approaches the game. After being discarded by both the Bears and Steelers, Fields credits reading the Bible for being able to take criticism in stride and not let outside noise effect his mental state of mind. This is an absolute make or break year for the 2021 first round pick.
