It was a quick turnaround from Charlotte-to-Chapel Hill, as we beat the sunrise on our 140-mile trip north for an up close look at the operation that is the North Carolina Tar Heels. It was a real eye opener to see the evolution of what has become college football. One thing is clear, the future is here and now! Legendary head coach Bill Belichick has been hard at work, orchestrating a front office personnel staff that is unparalleled. Tar Heels general manager Michael Lombardi brings over two decades of NFL experience, as a three-time Super Bowl champion. On the coaching staff, Belichick has surrounded himself with a plethora of former head coaches. The list includes former Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens, former UConn head coach Bob Diaco, along with former CFL general manager/head coach and four-time Grey Cup champion Chris Jones. Of course, Belichick is a man who needs no introduction, complete with a Hall of Fame resume. Top order of business? Flip the roster, entirely. The 2025 North Carolina football squad features over 100 new players who were not on the team a year ago, including 40 transfer players and 30 incoming high school recruits! The script has yet to be written. No one knows for certain how this story will end, or if it is even possible to mesh so many new parts into cohesion but you will be hard-pressed to find a more qualified staff who will attempt to pull off the ultimate feat.
