All Access Football was on location for the New England Patriots vs Philadelphia Eagles final joint practice on August 20 at Gillette Stadium. The stands were filled to the brim for the second consecutive day, which provided a game-like atmosphere thanks to the Eagles fans who travel well and of course, the hometown crowd.
Below are 12 observations from day two of the join practice. In case you missed it, we have also posted 12 observations from day one.
Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez remains absent due to a minor ankle injury and ongoing contract negotiation. The All Pro was unhappy with the approach of New England owner Robert Kraft, who went public with the announcement that the organization had made an offer that would make Gonzalez the highest paid corner in NFL history. When a deal is finally struck, it’s expected to exceed the $33M annual deal that Devon Witherspoon of the Seahawks received last week.
It was a down day for Eagles rookie tight end Eli Stowers, as he struggled to catch the ball during the red zone period. Philadelphia is seeking to employ more two tight-end sets this season under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion but Stowers has had a rough camp thus far, which is worth monitoring moving forward.
Undrafted Patriots rookie Jacob Rizy maximized his opportunities with guard Ben Brown out due to a leg injury. Rizy was a dominant presence in the run game and consistently looks for work in pass protection. He could very well find his way onto the team’s practice squad.
*Alert: Stay tuned for our follow-up on location report from Eagles camp next week!
