Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard enters his 10th season as the ultimate decision-maker of the club. Under his leadership, the organization has seen through head coaches Chuck Pagano (2017), Frank Reich (2018-22), Jeff Saturday (2022) and now Shane Steichen (2023-present). During that time, the franchise has failed to win a playoff game.
Mostly, Indianapolis tends to hover around .500, as Ballard has built a competitive team that has fallen short of becoming a legitimate contender. In terms of talent evaluation, the front office has yielded mixed results. The Colts have had just four first-round selections over the past eight years, often trading out altogether.
Recent first round selections such as tight end Tyler Warren (2025) [pic: Colts] and defensive end Laiatu Latu (2024) have panned out, while other picks like quarterback Anthony RIchardson (2023) and defensive end Kwity Paye (2021), not so much. The team will be without a first round pick once again in 2027, as a result of their midseason trade with the New York Jets for cornerback Sauce Gardner.
