The Sooners have had mixed results under Brent Venables. Oklahoma is coming off a 10 win season, which included seven draft selections, the most ever under Venables but just one player (R Mason Thomas-Chiefs) was chosen before Day 3. Overall, the talent pool has increased, as the school had just two draft picks the previous year in 2025.
This season, Oklahoma could produce a first round draft choice for the first time since 2024 (Tyler Guyton-Cowboys). The school has a slew of defensive prospects in contention, led by defensive tackle David Stone, who is seeking to etch his name into the record books alongside the likes of Gerald McCoy. Fellow defensive tackle Jayden Jackson is also sure to attract heavy NFL interest, as is cornerback Eli Bowen, while linebackers Kip Lewis and Owen Heiniecke return.
On offense, quarterback John Mateer will look to rekindle some of the magic he had working for him during the first half of last season. His dual-threat capability offers plenty of next level appeal. In addition, several Sooners wideouts will also be draft-eligible, including speedster Isaiah Satenga III. Could this be the year that the program finally breaks through?
