Seahawks general manager John Schneider struck gold with his decision to name Mike MacDonald the ninth head coach in franchise history. Just two years later, the organization would hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy. For Schneider, it was his second championship and he did so with an entirely re-built roster.
Teams who win usually share one common dominator. They dominate the first round of the NFL Draft, a vital component to roster construction, which Schneider has conquered like a king. In the 2025 NFL Draft, they selected starting left guard Grey Zabel, who played admirably. In 2024, Seattle drafted starting defensive tackle Byron Murphy, an emerging force on the interior.
Continuing with his first round success, in the 2023 NFL Draft, Schneider nabbed a pair of All Pro players in cornerback Devon Witherspoon and wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba (pic: Seahawks). In 2022, the Seahawks landed starting left tackle Charles Cross in round one. That’s five impact starters generated from the draft, just on Day 1, over the past four years. A big reason why Seattle is set to contend once again in 2026.
