An influx of five first round draft selections over the past three years, along with the hiring of new head coach John Harbaugh, has created a giant sense of optimism in New Jersey. Survivalist general manager Joe Schoen has received plenty of fair criticism, yet the cornerstone pieces he accumulated provides the G-Men with an opportunity to make a fast turnaround.

The most talented player on the entire roster is wide receiver Malik Nabers, the No.6 overall selection of the 2024 NFL Draft. While Nabers is coming off a season-ending ACL injury, he has since been medically cleared to return back to the field for training camp and is being counted on heavily to be the focal point of the offense. The following year, New York acquired two foundational building blocks in round one with the selections of pass-rusher Abdul Carter and quarterback Jaxson Dart.

Thanks to some shrewd draft day maneuvering, the Giants were able to strike twice on Day 1 once again in this year’s draft, adding linebacker Arvell Reese and offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa. It’s now up to Harbaugh to gel all the pieces together. For Schoen, he deserves credit for getting the train back onto the tracks.

Previously, the Giants organization had a long history of striking out in round one. A quick glance back paints a grim picture when you consider a four-year stretch that resulted in first round picks such as offensive tackle Evan Neal (2022), defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux (2022), wideout Kadarius Toney (2021) and cornerback Deandre Baker (2019).
