2027 NFL DRAFT TRACKER: IOWA HAWKEYES

Location: Iowa City, IA || Conference: B1G || Head Coach: Kirk Ferentz (27 Years: 213-128; Career: 221-149) || NFL Draft Picks Under Ferentz: 101 (3.7 per year) || First Round Picks Under Ferentz: 13 || Number of 2026 NFL Draft Picks: 7 || Hawkeyes in NFL: 47 (as of 5/29/26)

Iowa Hawkeyes head coach Kirk Ferentz is the longest tenured football coach in the NCAA, as he embarks upon his 28th year as headman of the program. Remarkably, the Hawkeyes have not had a losing season in 20 years! Yet, the school is still in search of their first-ever College Football Playoff berth.

The Hawkeyes produced seven draft selections in the 2026 NFL Draft, the most ever in one year during the Ferentz regime. It may be a tall task to expect the program to replicate their success once again in the 2027 NFL Draft but it should not be ruled out, depending on how many of their talented underclassmen decide to make a dash for the draft following the season.

Long known for producing high quality offensive linemen, this year is no different, as the Hawkeyes top prospects reside up front on offense. This past draft saw three Hawkeyes starters graduate onto the NFL but offensive tackle Trevor Lauck and offensive guard Kade Pieper still remain. Both players project as early-round candidates and it’s possible that one, or both could land in round one.

Meanwhile, safety Zach Lutmer (pic: Iowa Athletics), who plays the coveted ‘Cash’ position is one to watch for on defense. A hybrid linebacker/safety prospect, Lutmer is a cerebral former high school quarterback who is quick to diagnose, earning All-Big Ten honors a year ago. He projects as one of the Hawkeyes most coveted players.
