The Maryland Terrapins have gotten behind head coach Mike Locksley, providing him with new resources to help the program get back to relevancy in the Big Ten. After back-to-back winning seasons (2022-23), the Terrapins have endured two consecutive losing seasons and produced just one draft selection during the 2026 NFL Draft (Jalen Huskey, Rd3-Jaguars).
Previously, Maryland had six players chosen during the 2025 NFL Draft. However, the Terrapins have maintained high level prospects, as they have had at least one player drafted in the third round, or higher, in five straight years, including first round selection Deonte Banks (Giants) in 2023. With an influx of portal additions in this season, look for the school to have a replenished prospect pool for NFL evaluators.
A top player sure to garner plenty of next level attention is linebacker Daniel Wingate (pic: Maryland Athletics). The senior standout possesses a long, linear frame and owns a knack for sniffing out the football. Last year, Wingate collected over 100 tackles and had a pick-six interception return for a touchdown, earning him All-Big Ten Honorable Mention recognition. He’s expected to be relied upon as a key cog once again.
