After an unfortunate conclusion to the two-year stint of Sherrone Moore as Michigan headman, the Wolverines seem to have found stability with new head coach Kyle Whittingham. The school continues to produce a high volume of NFL prospects, with 13 draft selections over the past two years. Remarkably, Michigan had 13 players chosen in the 2024 NFL Draft, during the final year of the Jim Harbaugh regime. It’s possible the program could return to the double-digit mark for the 2027 NFL Draft.

The Wolverines are expected to open the season with Bryce Underwood as their starting quarterback and he has frequently been mentioned as a premier prospect for the 2028 NFL Draft. However, there is said to be some internal frustration regarding the sophomore signal-caller’s slow development. One offseason move that may have flown under the radar but could have a significant impact was the late portal addition of former Colorado State quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi, who will be waiting in the wings should Underwood falter.

Until the passing attack becomes more steady, the Wolverines could lean more heavily on redshirt sophomore Jordan Marshall, who will be draft-eligible. He stepped in for an injured Justice Haynes a year ago and proved to be a steady, durable, hard-nosed runner who constantly keeps his legs churning and showed flashes of great potential. In fact, he performed so well that it forced Haynes, a draftable prospect in his own right, to transfer to Georgia Tech during the spring.
