The Spartans inability to compete with NIL dollars has become evident in recent seasons. During the 2022 and 2023 NFL Drafts, Michigan State saw a total of seven players selected. In the three drafts since then, they have had just four players selected in total. Continuity has also played a key role, as the program has moved onto their fourth head coach in as many seasons with the hiring of Pat Fitzgerald.
While the school failed to land any marquee prospects via the portal, they did manage to add several players expected to make an impact and gauge NFL interest. Two of the more notable imports hail from the northeast, as running back Cam Edwards (pic: MSU Athletics) and offensive lineman Ben Murawski arrive from UConn and figure to play an integral role in attempting to reset the culture.
One player worth monitoring is pass-rusher Keahnist Thompson, who transferred up from Weber State and possesses solid size and athleticism. A four-star recruit out of high school, Thompson brings big-time pedigree, as he originally began his career at UCF, with offers from powerhouse programs such as Alabama, Miami and Texas.
