After a 5-2 start in what appeared to be a promising campaign, Northwestern would go onto win just two more games the rest of the way, finishing up 7-6 on the season. However, there is much optimism surrounding head coach David Braun, an up-and-comer who enters his fourth season at the helm at just 41 years-old. He has surrounded himself with some excellent offensive minds in new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly and quarterbacks coach Jerry Neuheisel.
The Wildcats return a handful of key players, including big-bodied wideout Griffin Wilde, who proved that the step up in level of competition from FCS-to-FBS was none too great during his first season in Evanston. A career-year could be in store for the former South Dakota State product and red zone mismatch weapon. Especially, if incoming transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles can fulfill his potential in what could be a dangerous offense.
Northwestern should own a solid one-two punch in the backfield, as Gavin Sawchuk transferred in from Florida State to pair with returning leading rusher Caleb Komolafe (pic: Northwestern Athletics). Northwestern ran the ball nearly 54% of the time in 2025, a number that figures to increase this season. On defense, ball-hawk safety Robert Fitzgerald plays as if his hair is on fire, racking up 114 tackles a year ago.
