The Hurricanes fell a few plays short of capturing their first national championship since 2021 last season. Miami and head coach Mario Cristobal enter the 2026 campaign with a Hurricane-sized chip on their shoulders.
With nine players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, including three first round picks, it was the most draft picks the school has produced since 2017. Despite incredible success, this year’s Hurricanes’ squad appears to be even more talented.
After quarterback Carson Beck (Cardinals) graduated onto the pros, Miami lured former Duke signal-caller Darian Mensah and made him the highest paid player in college football with a $6.5M NIL deal. The program has been a springboard opportunity for quarterbacks looking to enhance their draft stock. From Cam Ward (Titans) and then Beck, it could prove fruitful for both Mensah and Miami.
Following Mensah over from Durham is top-target Cooper Barkate. A refined route runner who knows how to move the chains, adding the familiar target was a coup for the ‘Canes. He’ll lineup alongside superstar Malachi Toney (pic: Miami Athletics), who is arguably the best player in the nation but will not be draft-eligible until 2028.
