It took four years but Virginia head coach Tony Elliott finally busted through to the winning side in 2026. After three straight losing seasons, in which the Cavaliers won a total of 11 games, Virginia had their most successful season of all-time, finishing 11-3 and ranked No.19 in the final AP Poll.
Upon taking over the program in 2022, Virginia had been shut out of the 2021 NFL Draft entirely. Since then, the Cavaliers have had at least one player drafted in each of the past four years. In 2026, safety Jonas Sanker (Saints), a third round pick, was the lone ‘Hoos’ player selected. This year’s team appears to be equipped with even more next level talent.
Several prospects have garnered preseason attention leading into the season, including linebacker Kam Robinson (photo: UVA Athletics). A certified member of the ‘Freak’s List,’ Robinson is a rare athletic specimen who is attempting to comeback from a season-ending ACL suffered in November. If healthy, Robinson commands the attention of NFL scouts.
A handful of Cavaliers carry Day 3 grades, including their bookend offensive tackles, which should help ease the transition of Penn State transfer quarterback Beau Pribula. Another player worth monitoring is safety Brandyn Hillman, who arrived from Michigan and looks to fill the void created by Sanker. While Virginia still lacks the national mainstream recognition, this is one program that should not be slept on.
